Hitler felt the need for growth, economically & agriculturally. He dreamed of a power national, rebuilt and re-branded under the same banner. He wanted the Reich to reach its full potential and the only way it could do this was though anschluss. He wanted to absorb Germanic people living outside of Germany into the Reich, so that they could attain the prosperity and growth offered by German industry (BBC, 2014). This would also increase the wealth and strength of the country.
Hitler’s dreams also meant the absorption of the lands Germanic people inhabited. Germany, as it was, was not big enough. In order to accommodate the influx of additional people, land would have to be conquered and annexed to Germany and Austria was of the main priority. Through anschluss, not only would the German population grow, so would industry and agriculture. Hitler would enforce anschluss through force or political sabotage.
